“Unkai (sea of clouds) Power Walk" Program at Hoshino Resorts Tomamu

  • Other Unique Lodgings

At Hoshino Resorts Tomamu, the largest accommodation style resort in Hokkaido, the “Unkai (sea of clouds) Power Walk” will be available from 1 July to 31 August 2021. This is a limited program for a pair per day, where guests can enjoy walking in the cool and comfortable climate of Tomamu to feel refreshed and aims to strengthen lung function and immunity. If weather conditions are right, a dynamic view of the sea of clouds can be enjoyed during the course from the foot of Mt. Tomamu to the summit. In addition, at the top of the mountain, you will be able to overlook the Daisetsu mountain range, a full 360-degree panoramic view, and can be re-charged with a nutritious breakfast.

During summer, our autonomic nerves can be easily disturbed due to the heat and excessive cooling by the air conditioner. Furthermore, with the spread of coronavirus in recent times, there is growing concern about health. The average temperature of Tomamu in July and August is around 18 degrees Celsius, which is a cool and comfortable climate, suitable for sports. We created this program to make use of the nature-rich environment of Tomamu, where guests can refresh their minds and body.

Actions against Coronavirus during the “Unkai Power Walk” Program
>Hosted outdoors to avoid confined spaces (with poor ventilation)
>Guide will wear a mask and keep social distancing

3 Features of the Program
1)Strengthening of lung function and immunity
This program encourages one to concentrate on taking deep breaths when walking fast and taking larger steps to use the whole body. The key is to relax the shoulders and the arm but to use the entire leg to step forward and land on your feet from the heels. This aerobic exercise and focus on abdominal breathing will lead to the strengthening of lung function. In addition, a reduction in stress through the movement of the body can improve immunity. Get your sneakers on for a refreshing walk out in nature!

2)Walking route through the Unkai Terrace of the resort

The route from the foot of Mt. Tomamu to the summit is about 4.8 kilometers and the altitude difference is about 700 meters. Whilst on the course, you could encounter wild animals such as deer and red foxes. After walking 4.2 kilometers, you will arrive at the Unkai Terrace, which is an observatory located at an altitude of 1088 meters. If the weather conditions are right, there will be a dynamic view of the sea of clouds. The course will continue from the Unkai Terrace to the summit of Mt. Tomamu, which is 150 meters higher. From the top of the mountain, guests will be able to see the Daisetsu mountain range, Mt. Ashibetsu, Mt. Yubari, and the Hidaka Mountains.

3)A nutritious breakfast at the mountain top
After walking, breakfast will be prepared, overlooking the surrounding mountains from the top of Mt. Tomamu. The breakfast includes carbohydrates, proteins, vitamins, and minerals so that your body can recover from the exercise. Enjoy the sandwich with a smoothie that uses the fresh, summer fruits of Hokkaido.
