"Ping pong Hotel" - All day everyday ping pong at OMO5 Tokyo Otsuka!

  • OMO5 Tokyo Otsuka

From 1 July to 5 September 2021, Hoshino Resorts OMO5 Tokyo Otsuka will host an event called the “Ping Pong Hotel.” It is an event, specific for this summer, where guests can see, learn and experience ping pong (or table tennis). Guests are invited to enjoy ping pong to the fullest, where there will be specially designed ping pong tables available 24 hours, and “Ping pong Lounge” that exhibits uniforms’ of professional players. In Otsuka, a town familiar with ping pong, guests can enjoy sports through this event.

Background
Otsuka is the perfect town for ping pong because there are ping pong gyms open for 24 hours, available for practice at people’s convenience, and sports bars specializing in ping pong. In the hopes to collaborate with the passion for sports, we decided to open our hotel suited to enjoy ping pong to the fullest for this summer.

Characteristic 1) Everywhere Ping pong – “Ping pong Lounge”
During the event, the OMO Base will feature a “Ping pong Lounge”! This special space will not only win the hearts and minds of fans but also beginners of ping pong. Anyone can play a game of ping pong on the specially designed ping pong table during the event as well as view the uniforms of professional players from world championships. A section of the “Ping Pong Lounge” will have a collage art wall using front covers of ping pong magazines. Guests can dive into the history and techniques of ping pong with over 100 books decorating the area from mangas, to non-fiction books.

Characteristic 2) All about having fun! – “Blackhole Ping pong”
Regardless of their ability to play ping pong, everyone from children to adults can enjoy “Blackhole Ping pong.” It is a sport that was created by the World Yuru Sports Association, which creates “new” laid-back sports for people of all ages, gender, and level of athleticism to have fun. “Blackhole Ping pong” uses a racket with a “blackhole” (hole) in the center, and it is a game that becomes harder for those with experience because it is most likely for them to “miss” the ball and for the ball to go through the hole. The racket uses photos of space provided by JAXA and NASA, making it a unique sport that looks as if the ping-pong ball is sucked into a black hole in space. This is a new genre of ping pong that can be enjoyed regardless of whether you scored or not.

Place: Ping pong lounge
Time: 11:30 am – 11:00 pm

Characteristic 3) All day everyday Ping pong!
For guests staying at our hotel during this event, ping-pong can not only be enjoyed at the Ping-pong Lounge but also anywhere in the building. On the floors of the guest rooms, there are ping pong tables available for use. There are also mini ping pong sets to be used inside the guest rooms for rental. A game of ping pong can be played anytime, even after a sightseeing trip to the city, before bedtime, and more!

Time:
-Ping pong table available from 7:00 am to 11:00 pm
-Mini ping pong set rental available from 3:00 pm to 11:00 am the next morning

Characteristic 4) Original design inspired by the Ping pong town?!
The design of the interior decorations and ping pong tables are specifically designed for this event. Inspired by the atmosphere of the Otsuka area, the design has a nostalgic feeling. The pattern is based on the traditional Japanese pattern, Seigaiha, a pattern that looks like a fan, created by a series of half circles. It is also similar to that of an endless wave-like pattern, which is mimicking the trajectory of a ping pong ball to express the joy that continues forever. In addition, the use of three primary colors, red, blue, and yellow, creates a retro feel.

Characteristic 5) Enjoying Ping pong like a local
Anyone who visits or lives in Otsuka can join in the fun! Before the start of the event, ping pong balls with our original logo will be distributed around the Otsuka area. Those who bring the ping pong balls during the event can freely enjoy a game at the Ping pong Lounge and “ping-pong ba” on the first basement floor of the hotel building.
