Slopes of Hoshino Resorts,
familiar since childhood.
Since five years old, Onitsuka has been practicing at the Alts Bandai Snow Park & Resort operated by Hoshino Resorts. It all started when she took part in a snowboarding class called “Kirara Camp.” It was also the “Indie Park Jam” held at Alts Bandai that was the first snowboarding competition she had won. After that, she became a professional snowboarder at the age of eight and expanded her field to the world, but as an annual New Year event, she returned to Alts Bandai with her family.
Creation of a custom-made snow park
to compete globally
As a result of a relationship from childhood, Hoshino Resorts formed an affiliation contract with Onitsuka in 2017. At that time, Onitsuka consulted us to build a custom-made snow park to win international competitions. While the Alts Bandai team is one of the top teams in Japan, having built a snow park for international tournaments, the snowboard ramp requested by Onitsuka was a new type that had never been built in Japan.

In order for Onitsuka to be able to practice with ease despite the dangers of performing high-speed turns while jumping more than 20 meters, a world-class snow park for training was created through multiple trials and errors. Since then, consultation with Onitsuka is vital every year to maintain the best snow park for her.

Challenges during the coronavirus outbreak

Many international tours and tournaments were canceled due to the coronavirus outbreak for the 2020-2021 season. A custom snow park called “Miyabi Park” was created in Alts Bandai so that she can practice thoroughly during these times. This is a documentary video of Onitsuka, who continues to challenge the world, and the Hoshino Resorts staff who supports her.

After participating in Kirara camp when I was five years old, I continued to train at Alts Bandai and Nekoma Ski Resort. Of course, the fact that the park was good was a big factor, but for a person like me from Kumamoto, it was great that I could experience everything including free runs.

Previously, there was no practical training environment in Japan, and even if I wanted to try a new technique, I couldn’t attempt it. After signing the contract, a custom-made snow park was made by Alts Bandai, which enabled me to focus on my training in Japan. Especially for the 2020-2021 season, there were no opportunities to participate in competitions or international tours due to coronavirus, so the creation of a world-class snowboard ramp kept my senses together for productive training sessions. We are planning to set up Alts Bandai’s custom-made snow park for the 2021-2022 season, so I will practice hard and try my best to win the international championship.
